Deirdre Grimshaw
Deirdre Grimshaw (87 posts) Head Teacher, Junior Campus View Profile

This week our Year 6 classes went over the bridge as primary children and have returned as secondary students.

Y6 Transition Day

With their heads held a little higher, walking taller, they proved they are ready for the transition to secondary school.  It is a milestone moment in their schooling and we were very proud of their enthusiasm and excitement during their day at secondary and how they embraced each and every activity that was available.

Next week we will welcome the Year 2 students to the Junior Campus for their ‘treasure hunt’ to help orientate themselves on this campus and we know they will respond with similar enthusiasm and excitement.  The Year 2 parents visited the campus last week ahead of their children and more information about this tour is shared in a post below by Ms Fran O’ Donnell, Year 2 Teacher.

Headteacher Coffee Morning

While the Year 6 students were enjoying their transition day, we welcomed the parents to our Headteacher’s Coffee Morning here at the Junior Campus. Based around the theme of school improvement, we shared updates on the recent BSO Inspection report, facility upgrades, iSAMS integration and upcoming reports.  The slides from the presentation can be accessed by clicking here.

We have a number of other events on the horizon. Please do read on to check dates in the diary as well as ensuring you are reading the learning letters from each year group weekly.  These contain important information regarding specific dates and times for events relating to your child’s class.

Over the last year there are various amazing learning moment that have been captured on Seesaw. For those families that are leaving this term you will still have access until the 5th July 2019.  Some of you may want to download your child’s journal to keep. To do this follow the help sheet please click here. If you need any help downloading, please speak to Ms Sarah or Mr Chris for help. You must do this on a computer and not a mobile device. All Year 6 students should also download their journals as Seesaw is not used in Secondary.

Aquathlon 2019

Tomorrow we look forward to the Aquathlon being hosted here on the Junior Campus.  It promises to be an exciting morning! Please do make sure you are here on time and ready to race!

Library Arrangements for the End of the Year

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, The Library team will be busy collecting in all the library books from students, teachers and parents, in preparation for the yearly inventory.

To enable this process to run as smoothly as possible, we need your help in ensuring that all library books are returned as soon as you have finished with them. The final date for the return of all library books is Monday June 17th 2019.

Thank you very much for your cooperation in assisting us during this extremely busy time of the year.

School Identification Badges

With so much happening across the three campuses, we see an increase in parents and visitors on site and as such we need to be more vigilant about campus security both during the school day and at weekends.  We would like to remind all parents that school identification badges must be worn, even on the weekends when attending school activities.  If not, you will be asked for some form of identity and asked to wear a visitor’s badge.

If you are sending a nanny or driver, please ensure they have the school identity lanyard or some form of identity card. We thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and school site safe and secure.

Managing our Traffic Together

Drivers Code of Conduct

For more information about how we can work together to improve traffic around our campuses, please access this post.

We have noticed a number of parents, nannies and drivers using the road instead of the bridge to cross between the Junior Campus and the Secondary Campus.  Please can we urge all of our community to use the bridge particularly at drop off and pick up times. It keeps you safe and also allows the traffic to flow more easily at these busy times.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

It is every parent’s wish to capture memorable moments on camera of their child at school either performing in an assembly, on their birthday or simply playing with their friends on the playground before the start of the school day.  Any photos that are taken by parents on personal devices must be kept private.  They must not be shared publicly on social media or between non-family members such as other parents in the school.  By following these guidelines, we ensure our BIS safeguarding policy is adhered to and that our children are kept safe.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Child Protection

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.

Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.

Today you will have received a letter from Mr Anthony Rowlands about staff departing BIS this year.  In the coming weeks we will share with you details of our new staff and what year groups and departments they will be joining.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ms Deirdre Grimshaw, Headteacher of Junior Campus
