A very warm welcome to all our new and returning families to the Junior Campus.

New School Year

A very warm welcome to all our new and returning families to the Junior Campus. It has been lovely seeing familiar faces and welcoming a whole host of new ones. We hope that everyone has settled in well and is getting used to the early mornings once more!

Our new staff have settled in beautifully and were very excited along with all the returning teachers to welcome back the students to school on Wednesday.  It was also lovely to see so many new and returning parents at the PTG Coffee Morning on Thursday. My thanks to the PTG for all that they have done already in supporting our new families to BIS. Please do read on for more information about upcoming events, click on the PTG link for details of what they are planning and scroll to the bottom for the dates for the diary section.

Although the children have not been on-site during the holidays, the campus has been a hive of activity with dozens of contractors flooding the site to continue with our phased campus improvement plan. This summer we transformed 16 classrooms and shared learning areas for our Year 5 and 6 students. It was wonderful to see their excited faces on entering their new classrooms. Our Food Technology and Art rooms have been completely transformed as have our EAL and Learning Support rooms which are now much more inviting for our students. We have added a new ICT suite, improved the BIS Garden, updated the Counsellors room and in between there have been lots of tweaks and improvements across the site including a beautiful new playground surface from Gate A. This is a huge improvement for our students and we are delighted with all that has been done. We are a work in progress and we look forward to more campus improvements in the coming months and during holiday periods this year. Look out for a post next week all about the recent campus developments along with some great photos.

Parent Information Evening

On Wednesday 28th August we will have our Parent Information Evening at the Junior Campus. This is an opportunity for you to meet the teachers here at school and hear all about the year group that your child is in.  We will begin in the gym with a short presentation and introductions to all the staff. Following this, parents will attend a classroom presentation by their class teacher, or as a group of 2 classes in some instances. This presentation will include details on the routines of the year group, expectations of the students, communication and a short overview of the curriculum. It is an extremely valuable evening which will give you the overview you need for the year ahead.

It begins at 5pm in the gym. We look forward to seeing you there.

Nord Anglia Games Trials

Primary NAE Games 2019 (10)

Ms Lindsey, from our PE department, sent a letter this week about our upcoming trials for the Nord Anglia(NAE) Games being held here in Ho Chi Minh at BVIS in District 7. This is another great opportunity for our students in Year 5 and 6 to compete against other NA schools. Trials begin next week for Years 5 and 6 students and we look forward to seeing many of them there on Monday and Wednesday after school. If for any reason you did not receive the letter from Ms Lindsey, please email her directly: lindsey.shuttleworth@bisvietnam.com">lindsey.shuttleworth@bisvietnam.com

Co-Curricular Activities

Club Booklet

Today the Co-Curricular booklet goes live and you will be able to see what clubs and activities your children can sign up for. Please take the time to read through the booklet carefully.  A letter with all the details is also being sent to help guide you on how to make club choices.  We are very happy to be able to offer an extensive range of clubs for all students.  Sign up begins on Monday next, 26th August at 5pm and closes on Friday August 30th at 12 noon.  Please note it is not first come, first serve but done by random selection but please make sure you sign up next week during those times.

Key Communication this week

Over the last few days, we have sent out quite a lot of important letters. We don’t anticipate this volume of communication to continue but in order to ensure a smooth start to the year and that you don’t miss anything important, please do check emails to ensure that you have received communication about the following:

  • Junior Campus Club Letter (sent Thursday 22/08)
  • Parent Information Evening Letter (sent Friday 23/08)
  • Specific letters from class teachers or year group leaders with class/year group information

If you have not received any of the above as a Junior parent, please contact the office for the letters or your class teacher for class information.

Reminders...

Managing our Traffic Together

Drivers Code of Conduct

We would like to remind all parents about our Drivers Code of Conduct and once more ask for your assistance and cooperation in helping to make the BIS traffic flow with ease between the campuses and in the general vicinity of the school. Using the Code of Conduct, with key information in both English and Vietnamese, we aim to further educate our drivers to make better choices when they enter the areas around our school campuses and within the Thao Dien area as a whole.

Please take time to talk to you drivers about the this and ensure that it is visible in your car at all times. This will serve as a reminder about our expectations for all drivers when they are bringing our children to school in the morning and picking them up at the end of the day.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

Child Protection

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.

Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.

Enjoy a relaxing and restful weekend,

Dee Grimshaw

Head of the Junior Campus
