The meeting presented a general overview of the Vietnamese language curriculum in BIS primary and how to help students to read and write at home.
No one can deny that the Vietnamese language plays a vital role at BIS HCMC for our Vietnamese students. BIS HCMC always encourages the use and development of home languages as we believe a child’s mother tongue is extremely important.
Realising the importance of the home language, lots of parents attended the Coffee Morning. They listened intensively, asked lots of questions concerning the curriculum: lesson activities, textbooks, tests, reports and how to support and motivate the children at home. If you were unable to attend the coffee morning, a copy of the presentation can be found here.
Tuesday afternoon, saw 27 Vietnamese classes (from Year 1 to Year 6) and 4 Vietnamese clubs start. The students settled well and were very excited during their first lesson. They spoke Vietnamese, played phonic games and learned to read and write with their friends.
Thank you to all of the marvellous Vietnamese teachers, who support the students during the day and teach the students Vietnamese language in the afternoon. Most of all, thank you to all the parents who greatly care about their children’s mother tongue in an international school. Your contribution of lots of valuable ideas to build the Vietnamese department in BIS are most welcome.
We are looking forward to a successful school year ahead with your support.
