Today we celebrated Moon Festival at the Junior Campus. Opening the celebrations with a magnificent Dragon Dance, it was a riot of colour and nail biting in parts to watch but what a magnificent spectacle for all. It was super to see that many of you tuned in to Facebook Live and caught a glimpse of all the action. We were delighted that the weather held too!
The day continued with 2 fabulous assemblies for all of the students. Sadly, we were not able to invite all the parents due to covid restrictions but it was wonderful to be able to share this important Vietnamese festival with our school community. More photos and details to follow next week but I must offer my thanks to all involved in making this such a special occasion for our students. In particular, I would like to thank all of our Vietnamese staff for their hard work with the students to prepare the assemblies for today.
We were delighted to be able to support our Community Partners with their very own Dragon Dance visit as they couldn’t attend our dance. Please stay tuned for more information coming soon on that.

Digital Citizenship Podcast and Post
The same post from last week but so important so if you haven’t already, read on and access the podcast. In the digital world we live in today, as parents, we all need to have an awareness of digital citizenship and what our responsibilities are and the expectations we have of our children and ourselves in this regard. Please take the time to listen to this fantastic digital citizenship podcast by Mr Luke Dyer, whole school STEAM Leader and primary ICT leader and Mr Peter Cowen, Secondary Learning Technologies Integrator, and access their informative post here.
Global Campus - Veggie Tales
Being part of Nord Anglia Education brings many benefits to the school; we have our connections with Juilliard, MIT and the United Nations, and our teachers can access great online training and even complete a Master’s degree through the ‘Nord Anglia University’. Our students also have access to the ‘Global Campus’. This allows our children to participate in age appropriate activities with others from all over the world. Until recently, most of these activities have been for our older students, but recently, Global Campus Junior has been developed with more of a focus on our younger ones.
Ms Cat Molloy, our whole school director of performing arts introduces one of the most recent activities in the post below:
English as an Additional Language Coffee Morning for Parents
Thank you again to all the parents who attended the EAL Coffee Morning! It was fantastic to see you last Friday to see the wonderful EAL teachers present on the EAL programme. This meeting was aimed at ensuring that parents were fully informed about:
- Assessing for EAL
- EAL Tier Levels
- The type of support – withdrawals and in class
- The importance of home language
- How you can help your child.
This is the PowerPoint for the presentation which we hope you will find informative. EAL Parent Presentation.
English Teaching and Learning at BIS
At BIS, we follow the highly-effective Talk for Writing approach in English lessons, which enables children to write independently for a variety of audiences and purposes. This half term, it has been wonderful to see the Year 3 and Year 4 students planning and writing entire stories with creativity and confidence. Read more about our teaching and learning in this post by Mr John Lee EAL Teacher and English Subject Leader.
New Teacher Profiles
We would like to welcome all of our new staff to the school. This week we introduce Mr Anthony Woolley, ICT Teacher
A chat with Me Anthony, ICT Teacher
Pick the first 3 words you think of when I say Vietnam:
Lively, quirky, tasty.
What are your first impressions of BIS?
I was really impressed with how welcome I was made to feel from the principal, SLT, subject department and colleagues. No question was too trivial and no request left unanswered. The school campus blew me away, especially the DREAMS Lab where I spend most my time. The students at the school are very friendly and naturally inquisitive, which is a great combination for learning.
What new experience have you had since you arrived in Vietnam?
Since arriving in Vietnam, I have made an effort to try all things new. I have been on a motorbike food tour trying all the local delicacies, getting back into rock climbing and generally exploring the different districts. I have found my new obsession: Shuffle Board!
If you were writing a postcard to friends back home, what would it say?
Come to Vietnam as soon as possible!
Health and Safety
Just a reminder that all children should wear a mask to and from school, and when not in the classroom (moving between classrooms, playtime, etc.). Please make sure the mask is named and that your child has a spare in their bag.
Children should be bringing a water bottle to school every day as part of their usual routine, but it is all the more important during the current coronavirus pandemic. Please make sure that your child brings their water bottle, with their name clearly on it, every day.
Drop Off and Pick Up arrangements.
Sincere thanks to everyone for your support in adhering to the guidelines for drop off and pick up. In the afternoons for those exiting through Gate C, please do not cross the road to the secondary campus there. Please go to Gate B where guards will assist you. Please note that parents cannot cross the bridge at this time as parents are not allowed in to the secondary campus. Thank you for your cooperation.
Next Wednesday, 7th October, the PTG will host a Cultural Event for parents. Details are above but please click on this link to find out more about other events also.
