Primary Maths update

Whilst the majority of our maths learning happens in the classroom, we are always looking for further opportunities to encourage the children to apply their maths skills independently and in ‘real life’ situations. So far this term both Infants and Juniors have been using the problem solving skills in a variety of ways.

‘Enquiry’ is one of our Aide Memoire attributes, and it is fantastic to see our younger learners explore the world around them and embracing opportunities to start building their foundations in Maths. F1 have thoroughly enjoyed being back at school this week, using the outdoor equipment and pouring water into different containers. F2 have been recognising different numbers and shapes around the classroom and using a variety of equipment to count numbers. Whilst in F3, the children have been making their own number sentences on the roof! At the EY&I Campus our children love a challenge and practising the skills they have learnt in class. With that in mind, this term we have introduced a lunchtime challenge table for the Year 1 and 2 children to enjoy. Each week there is a different activity for the students to complete that encourages them to use, develop and share their problem solving and reasoning skills. From balancing miniature chairs to cracking mystery codes, there’s been a challenge to test every child. It has been fantastic to see so many students have a go at the different tasks, and sharing all their wonderful solutions to the challenges with their friends and teachers.

Before the half term break, the Junior Campus hosted another hugely successful Enterprise Week and Market day.

The week began with businesses calmly preparing their products, games and services, ready for 10:00am on Thursday 8th October 2020 when the market was declared open. As the week progressed and the deadline gradually crept closer, classrooms became a hive of activity and excitement. Children were busy collaborating to make adverts and using their creativity to ensure that what they made would attract customers. This year there seemed to be more of a variety, from dinosaur products, an assortment of cookies, cake pops, spin the wheel and much more.

A huge thank you must go to our guards, cleaners and maintenance staff who; as always, worked tirelessly to ensure the venue was ready. Thank you to all teachers and our Vietnamese educators who gave the time and effort to support the children. Finally, what makes this event such a positive experience is your children, who throw everything into what they are doing, and do so with a huge amount of enthusiasm and positivity.

As a collection of young entrepreneurs, they managed to raise over 58,000,000 VND in just over an hour which will be a huge help to our community partners.
