Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 30/10/2020

Deirdre Grimshaw
Deirdre Grimshaw (104 posts) Head Teacher, Junior Campus View Profile

After the success of last year’s Specialist Subjects 'Open Classrooms' on the Early Years and Infants Campus, we on the Junior Campus are very excited to be able to announce that our Specialist Departments - Music, MFL, PE and ICT - will be opening their classrooms up to parents next Tuesday, the 3rd of November.

This opportunity will be a wonderful way for our parent community to see first-hand the way in which our students are taught in specialist lessons, and why it is they come home excited about what it was they did in one of these sessions. The morning will begin with a short introduction by all leaders of our specialist subjects at 8:15am in the Gym, and then will be followed up by providing you with the prospect of watching a variety of lessons taking place from 8:45 until 9:30am across a number of locations. Our specialist leaders will then be available back in the Gym from 9:45 until 10am to answer any further questions you may have about what was observed during the open morning. Due to ongoing procedures we need to adhere to during these times, we are only able to offer this opportunity to 150 parents of students from the Junior Campus. If you are certain you will be available to attend, and would like the opportunity to do so, please sign up by using the Google Form HERE

We hope you are able to come and enjoy the morning with us!

U9 and U11 Football V AIS

It was wonderful to see our U9 and U11 boys and girls football teams in action this week against AIS. Showing grit, determination, skill and great teamwork, the teams represented BIS proudly and they did a magnificent job. Read the match reports and see photos of the children in action by clicking here.

Year 4 Fashion Show

Fashion show year 4

Fashion is like eating, you shouldn't stick to the same menu.” —Kenzo Takada

With this in mind, Year 4 put on their fashionable thinking caps, got creative and rose to the challenge during a whirlwind forty-five minutes to put together an incredible fashion extravaganza as part of their entry point for their new IPC unit.  Read more about it and see our superstar fashion models in action in this post by Mr Oliver Bone, Year 4 leader.

Community Choir

community choir

The community choir are back to rehearsing this week.  Rehearsals are at 7am on Thursdays in the Secondary Theatre and at 1.15pm in the Junior Campus Multi-purpose room.  All staff and parents welcome. Here is a link to the website with details of forthcoming performances and music we will sing.

Poppy Appeal

The Royal British Legion created the Poppy Appeal to help those returning from the First World War. A Century on from that conflict, we’re still helping today’s Service men and women, veterans and their families, whether coping with bereavement, living with disability, or finding employment. Without your help, none of this would be possible.

Please join us in showing that we REMEMBER on the 11th of November by purchasing a Poppy or Poppy stationery. Available at Reception until the 11th November 2020

Health and Safety

COVID Precautions

Just a reminder that all children should wear a mask to and from school, and when not in the classroom (moving between classrooms, playtime, etc.).  Please make sure the mask is named and that your child has a spare in their bag.

Children should be bringing a water bottle to school every day as part of their usual routine, but it is all the more important during the current coronavirus pandemic.  Please make sure that your child brings their water bottle, with their name clearly on it, every day.

Drop Off and Pick Up arrangements.

Sincere thanks to everyone for your support in adhering to the guidelines for drop off and pick up. In the afternoons for those exiting through Gate C, please do not cross the road to the secondary campus there.  Please go to Gate B where guards will assist you.  Please note that parents cannot cross the bridge at this time as parents are not allowed in to the secondary campus. Thank you for your cooperation
