Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 20/11/2020

Dalat, Hue, Saigon, Hanoi! Across the Junior Campus reverberated the chants of each house this week as each and every student competed proudly for their houses during Sports Days.

Sport day

In fiercely fought battles, children ran their fastest, leaped into the air, threw quoits and javelins and all the while cheering their houses, supporting their friends and making wonderful memories. When we as adults reminisce about school, these are the events we remember, slightly different from our day perhaps, but a morning outside, with pals cheering and shouting till our voices hurt, is a pretty good day.

My sincere thanks to the PE department for running these Sports Days for all.  It takes a huge amount of organisation and planning and I am sure you will agree; they did a magnificent job.  A full report, with results will be shared next week.

Teacher Day

Today is Teacher’s Day and we were well and truly spoilt by the amazing PTG. Catering for over 200 on the Junior Campus, parents, teachers and teaching assistants enjoyed a delicious lunch and the opportunity to come together to share food, get to know each other better and enjoy each other’s company.  Big thanks to the amazing PTG and all the parents and local businesses that supported this wonderful occasion.

Last night I had the privilege of attending the winter concert at the Secondary Campus.  Mr O’Neill pointed out that it was the first concert that had taken place in the auditorium in 2020.  The concert itself was magnificent and it was amazing to see some of Year 7 students taking part as recent arrivals to the Secondary Campus.  We do not take for granted, any of the amazing opportunities that our students have at the moment, compared to many of their peers in our home countries and elsewhere around the world due to COVID. With upcoming expeditions for Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 and other events planned, we are in a fortunate position here in Vietnam.  I would like to say a very sincere thank you to you the parents for your continued support and adherence to our Health and Safety guidelines which allows us to move forward in this manner.

Year 5 New Arrivals

Health and Safety

COVID Precautions

Just a reminder that all children should wear a mask to and from school, and when not in the classroom (moving between classrooms, playtime, etc.).  Please make sure the mask is named and that your child has a spare in their bag.

Children should be bringing a water bottle to school every day as part of their usual routine, but it is all the more important during the current coronavirus pandemic.  Please make sure that your child brings their water bottle, with their name clearly on it, every day.

Drop Off and Pick Up arrangements

Sincere thanks to everyone for your support in adhering to the guidelines for drop off and pick up. In the afternoons for those exiting through Gate C, please do not cross the road to the secondary campus there.  Please go to Gate B where guards will assist you.  Please note that parents cannot cross the bridge at this time as parents are not allowed in to the secondary campus. Thank you for your cooperation.
