Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 04/12/2020

What a difference a week can make.

Advent calendar

Last week we were delighted to have parents on site for our speech competition and our debate competition, and we were also extremely happy that we had just received all the parents for Sports Days. We have faced a slightly different picture this week.

Living in Vietnam over the past number of weeks and months, I have felt extremely safe and happy to move around the city and country and have been grateful for the proactive actions that the government has taken to stem the spread of COVID-19.

This week, the Vietnamese government has once again been extremely proactive in ensuring our community and the wider community of Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam stays safe in light of the recent outbreak. This has meant, that we have had to cancel, postpone or adapt a number of events. Yesterday you will have received an email telling you that our Primary Carol Concert will now be live streamed instead of having a live audience of parents. While we are disappointed that this is happening, we are confident that the students performing will still have a fantastic experience and that parents and indeed wider family will also enjoy a wonderful afternoon of music.

The concert will begin at 1.15pm and can be accessed by clicking on this link at this time.

My sincere thanks to everybody for your understanding your support and continued trust in us as a school as we navigate these difficult times.  While we are disappointed, it is important to focus on the positives, as a school we have been fortunate to have being able to teach for the whole term uninterrupted. This has not been the case for many of our Nord Anglia schools and other schools in the region. As a parent I know I am grateful that my children have been able to come to school everyday. I would like to thank as we approach the end of term, all of the guards, cleaners, maintenance teams and facility managers that have ensured our campus is clean, safe and fit to receive students.

We are delighted to let you know that this term’s Spotlight will be sent home to all families next week. It showcases the many and varied events that have taken place this term.  Please keep an eye out in school bags!

Please take note of the revised Dates for the Diary Section at the end of this update which outlines events that have been cancelled or postponed.

Parent Partnership Powers-up our Learning!

About a week ago, the children of Year 4 experienced an inspirational demonstration and workshop that was led by 4 very knowledgeable parents. We were shown how to upcycle clothing, which reduces waste by reusing fabrics and materials. The parents guided us through different techniques and after learning some of them, the children were ready to showcase their new clothing on the catwalk. Thank you to Mimi, Neelam, Bibi and Irene for your expert guidance!

Tet Collection 2021

Tet Collection

Although we have yet to celebrate Christmas, preparations are already underway for the Tet Collection. Tet, the most important event in the Vietnamese Calendar, is an opportunity for us, as a school, to support those less fortunate in our community.  Due to the success of last year’s Tet Boxes, we will continue with the same tradition this year. Information was shared with all children today at assembly and more information about you can get involved can be found by accessing this post.

Health and Safety

COVID Precautions

Just a reminder that all children should wear a mask to and from school, and when not in the classroom (moving between classrooms, playtime, etc.).  Please make sure the mask is named and that your child has a spare in their bag.

Children should be bringing a water bottle to school every day as part of their usual routine, but it is all the more important during the current coronavirus pandemic.  Please make sure that your child brings their water bottle, with their name clearly on it, every day.

Drop Off and Pick Up arrangements.

Sincere thanks to everyone for your support in adhering to the guidelines for drop off and pick up. In the afternoons for those exiting through Gate C, please do not cross the road to the secondary campus there.  Please go to Gate B where guards will assist you.  Please note that parents cannot cross the bridge at this time as parents are not allowed in to the secondary campus. Thank you for your cooperation.

What a great Disco yesterday organised by our amazing PTG. A brilliant afternoon of fun and dancing for all the students.
