BIS HCMC Update - 07/02/2020

Following further direction from the Vietnamese government, the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City will now remain closed to students until Monday 17th February.

Our staff are back at work and are continuing to deliver engaging learning opportunities through our online classroom platforms. Over the last three days, our teachers have created some fantastic e-learning practices for our students to continue their studies with as little disruption as possible. Whilst these are challenging circumstances, they have been innovative and enthusiastic, rising to the challenge, and producing some outstanding results.

It goes without saying that our students have also been magnificent, engaging with the learning and interacting with their teachers. We may even have a few budding YouTube superstars amongst us!

Read more about our actions here via the BIS HCMC Update.

Overview of the week’s activities

Embracing E-Learning at BIS Secondary Campus

BIS E-learning - Vectors

In recent years, Learning Technology has played an important role in developing both staff and students' educational experiences at the British International School Ho Chi Minh City to ensure that we stay at the forefront of 21st-century education.

Professional Learning Programmes for our teachers on the theme of Learning Technology, such as Google Certified Educator, showed particular significance this week in light of the challenging circumstances we face. We have seen some excellent examples of E-Learning in meeting our students’ needs. Nothing has changed in terms of the quality of education and provision for our students - indeed, many of the approaches adopted have already played a role in our students’ learning for many years!

Greg Roberts, Design and Technology Teacher and Learning Technology Integrator, along with some of our subject teachers, share just a few examples of how our teachers and students are embracing e-learning at the Secondary Campus.

School Related Events

During this week we have been looking carefully at events in our school calendar for the next six weeks or so. Due to the planning, finances and current international travel restrictions along with the wellbeing of staff, students and parents we have had to make some difficult decisions on some key events sooner rather than later.

Therefore, the following events involving the school will not go ahead in February/March:

FOBISIA U13 Games in Phuket

FOBISIA Music festival in New Delhi

BIS Invitational Swim Meet

NAEMUN

SAIMUN

SISAC Sport competitions -  postponed until further notice

BIS Community Football Tournament

Whilst we are working to keep all parents informed of any changes throughout this time and we thank you for your support and understanding, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about scheduled or proposed events over the coming month, (sc@bisvietnam.com)
