There are lots of new routines in our ‘new normal’ such as more regular handwashing, different spaces for eating in the canteen, wearing masks in the corridors and toys available on rotation rather than continually available as usual, but the children have shown great maturity in asking questions, understanding that things are a bit different, and getting on with the important business of play.
Children’s smiles of delight and love of learning is what teachers want to see and classes have all quickly picked up our timetables and routines, returned to show excellent attitudes to learning and re-discovered friends.
We have had some wonderful whole class sessions including, very joyful and fun splash pool and outdoor learning on the roof.
It is wonderful for teachers to see that children have used the Virtual School resources though Seesaw throughout the last 15 weeks and to see progress in some areas. Teaching this week has included revisiting some of the Virtual School learning, including ‘special friends’ in phonics and doubling, halving and sharing and many children have shown familiarity in all of these areas. The Virtual School videos and materials can be revisited at any time throughout the summer to help consolidate or extend learning.
Children were measured for Year One uniforms this week, they received class mixing slips and we will begin short visits to Year One classes, all small steps towards a smooth transition ready for next year.
