Primary PTG Newsletter - Friday 25th September

Xin chào!  This week we are thrilled to have finally hosted our first Primary PTG event of the year! As you all know, due to the Peoples Committee guidelines many of our PTG Welcome and Social events at the beginning of this term had to be cancelled or postponed, and we have really missed being able to meet and connect with our BIS parent community. However yesterday we were very excited to run a Vietnamese Language and Culture Workshop at the Junior Campus.  Our first event of the year, and the first of its kind!

PTG Vietnamese Culture Workshop

We were honoured to be joined by Professor Nguyen Huynh Lam and Ms Vo Thi Tuyet Nga, from the Vietnam National University of Social Sciences and Humanities, HCMC, who were so engaging and created a relaxed fun environment for us to all learn!  After an initial introduction to Vietnamese language we all then practiced the correct pronounciation of different tones, counting, basic greetings and a couple of parents even volunteered to engage in a short conversation!  We then enjoyed a coffee break as we sampled different Moon Cakes and learnt more about traditonal Vietnamese Moon Festival and TET New Year Celebrations.

(A variety of Vietnamese langage programs are available at the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, VNU-HCMC. For more information please contact vietnamhoc@hcmussh.edu.vn or www.vs.edu.vn)

It was wonderful to see so many parents interested in this workshop as the number of parents registered exceeded the maximum allowance. As a final point, 29 parents attended raising 8.7m VND, 6m VND of this money raised will be used to pay for Dragon Dancers to perform at the Thao Dien School for the Disabled, an even better reason to celebrate such a great turn out!  The remaining amount of the money rasied will be reinvested into future PTG events and donated to Community Partners later in the year.

As always these events wouldn’t be possible without BIS parents and staff volunteering their time and energy to organise, promote, sell tickets, and host. So a huge thank you to the core team of volunteers for organising this event; Jana, Noriko, Ai, Anchal, of course the parents who supported by attending and the school site sercvies and marketing team.

An additional thanks to our food sponsors, Afterschool Coffee, Morico, Miyama, Sai Bong and Platters by Ash who provided delicious food for us all to enjoy!

We already have our next event to look forward to SAVE THE DATE and get ready to join our free “PTG Cultural Celebration” on 7th October, between 8.30-10am at the Black Box, Junior Campus.  No tickets necessary but registration required due to limited spaces available…. get ready to celebrate and enjoy some cultural performances, and watch out for more information coming next week!
