A very warm welcome back to all our existing families and an especially warm welcome to any new families joining us this term.

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and although we were not able to travel beyond borders this holiday, I hope, like me, you could explore our wonderful host country, Vietnam.

It was delightful to welcome the children back to school on Wednesday and already they have been busy accessing new topics across all areas of the curriculum. Preparations are already underway, for International Week which will begin on January 25th. More information will follow, about this exciting week shortly. Before that though, we have busy weeks ahead of us.

School Photos

Next week we welcome, from Hanoi, ‘Picture Day’ the company that will undertake the school photographs for all three campuses this year. To find out more about Picture Day please follow the link here.

Students at the Junior Campus will have their photographs taken next week (Monday 11th – Friday 15th January 2021). Your child’s class photo and individual photo will be taken on the same day. Details of the schedule will have been shared with you via learning letters today and there will be reminders sent on seesaw. Please can we ask for your support in ensuring that all children wear the correct uniform, including footwear for the photographs and indeed every day when they come to school. Sibling photographs will also be available, and details of times and availability was shared in a letter sent on Wednesday. It is an online sign up system and the link can also be accessed here.

Parent Teacher Student Conferences

In addition to the photographs next week we are also excited to welcome you all for our ‘Parent Teacher Student Conferences’ (PTSCs). Please note that students are expected to attend the conferences with parents. It is a wonderful opportunity to review your child’s December report and talk through the next steps recommended and how you can support them at home. Sign up details were sent on Wednesday to all parents. Sign up closes on Monday so please ensure you make an appointment with your child’s class teacher before then.

If your child accesses EAL or Vietnamese lessons, you may also sign up to meetings with these teachers on the same day. EAL and Vietnamese teachers will be in the gym on the 1st floor. Please ensure you allow enough time between appointments in case any appointments over run. If you have not received an email with details for signing up on our “Parents Evening System’, please contact Ms Thanh in the office at Thanh.Nguyen1@bisvietnam.com

Please note that only Vietnamese translation is available.

Junior Campus Facility Updates

Over the holidays, we have continued to improve areas of the campus. Our swimming pool has had new lighting and doors installed making it a much brighter and safer space.

We have added extra whiteboards to all Year 3 and 4 Classrooms and better signage at Gate A has been added.  We are also improving the look of the school with better visuals to reflect our learning and student work.

Parent Satisfaction Survey: What do you think about BIS?

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our school and your feedback is vital to this process. Our annual parent satisfaction survey helps us better understand how we are performing in key areas, including what we are doing well and any opportunities for improvement, and we use these results to inform our strategy. Therefore, the more parents we hear from, the more confident we can be that our action plans respond to your views and allows us to continue providing the best possible educational experience for your child.

The 2020-21 Parent Satisfaction Survey is now live and will remain open until Friday 31st January 2021.

We are once again aiming for a good response rate and need your help to do so. Please follow the link that has been emailed to you.

Water Safety

New facility

According to Professor Nguyễn Trường Sơn, Vietnam’s deputy minister of health, 'Drowning is the leading cause of death for those under the age of 19, killing more than 3,000 children and adolescents annually'. We want our children at BIS to be confident and have the skills to save themselves should they get into trouble in water.  Ms Emily, our Head of Aquatics explains more here.

Health and Safety

COVID Precautions

A parent Health declaration Form was sent to all parents this week. Please can we ask that you complete this form if you have bot already done so. This is particularly important with Parent Teacher Student Conferences taking place next week.

Just a reminder that all children should wear a mask to and from school, and when not in the classroom (moving between classrooms, playtime, etc.).  Please make sure the mask is named and that your child has a spare in their bag.

Children should be bringing a water bottle to school every day as part of their usual routine, but it is all the more important during the current coronavirus pandemic.  Please make sure that your child brings their water bottle, with their name clearly on it, every day.

Drop Off and Pick Up arrangements.

Sincere thanks to everyone for your support in adhering to the guidelines for drop off and pick up. In the afternoons for those exiting through Gate C, please do not cross the road to the secondary campus there.  Please go to Gate B where guards will assist you.  Please note that parents cannot cross the bridge at this time as parents are not allowed into the secondary campus. Thank you for your cooperation.
