It Has Been A Privilege (A look back on Year 1)

On 4th January 2018, I arrived in Dublin for the first time. I was driven to a recently vacated building destined to become Ireland’s first International School and the tour began. With the remnants of the Microsoft Christmas party all around me, I stood in what is now Tir na nog and began to imagine… how a blank canvas might be transformed into a vibrant space full of active, happy learners. Descending back from my moments of blue-sky thinking, one thought was instantly clear. To realise this vision, we would require a resourceful, creative and dedicated team.

Over the following weeks and months, the ‘A’ team was assembled, drawing on expertise and experience from all over the globe to help not only design and make a world class learning environment, but to set about creating a curriculum which was relevant, authentic and inspiring. With the school site still undergoing its transformation, potential parents would sit with Mr Crute and I, as we passionately ‘painted a picture’ of what the school would be like: from the collaborative ethos with partners like MIT and Juilliard; the wealth of languages on offer; to the daily routines and cultures of school life. For me it was paramount that from the very first moment the school opened, we would be in a position to deliver on every promise made in that tiny office. When the team arrived in August 2018, with their ‘can do’ attitude, professionalism and determination to make the school a success I knew, with no small amount of relief, that this was no longer in question. However, it wasn’t until the 6th September 2018, with the arrival of the students and their families that life was breathed into the building and history was made.

Over the last year we have welcomed many new families into our community; I have watched relationships grow and children flourish. It has been a privilege. This has been an incredible shared journey and I would like to wish those families moving on the very best with their new adventure. We hope that you leave with fond memories and as NAIS Dublin alumni, remain in touch.

Thank you to each and every one of you for the part you play in making this such a special school.

Wishing you all a restful holiday.
