If you ask any child after a full day of structured studying at school whether they would like more studying or whether they would want to play, we can guess which answer they will give.
On Wednesdays after school at the Creative Robot Club, we play. Learning is just a serious side effect. In the club we play building Lego Mars Rovers, helicopter looking pieces, space objects, race cars resembling cool things, personal flying stuff, or just some wheels somehow connected and called 'something'! In addition to this, we programme the robots’ "brains" to move the motors, sense its surroundings, make sounds and bring the creation to life. The aim of the club is to open up the children’s minds to the wonders of the 21st century technologies, to let fantasies fly and ideas come to playful realisation. Teamwork, sharing and helping are some of the natural tools we use to make our game more effective and enjoyable.
At the end of the day when we ask, “Did you had fun?” and the answer is, “Yes”, we know they have learned something.
