CAS experience for Alyssa, Sarah and Ena

Continuing our series on CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) that forms part of the IBDP for all our Sixth Form students, this week we hear from Alyssa, Sarah and Ena.

Sarah

During the summer holiday, I volunteered to help out at the BISB summer camp with a couple of my friends. We were assigned to help out the Early Years students and take on the role of assistants to the teachers. At first, I was a bit nervous since I’ve never really worked with younger students before; however, as soon as I met the younger students my nervousness was replaced by excitement to work with them. It was interesting to see the progress made during the week as we became more efficient in resolving conflicts as well as communicating with the students. By the end of the week, I was able to significantly develop my communication and teamwork skills while having fun. Overall, it was a fun and memorable experience and if I could, I would do it again!

Alyssa

I took part in the English play “The Crucible” where I got to play the role of Cheever. This experience contributed to the creative strand of my CAS. Through this experience, I learnt the challenges of staying in character and I got to work with other students from different year groups. This helped me improve my communication skills as well as my stage confidence. All in all, it was a very enjoyable and memorable experience.

Ena

One of my most memorable CAS experiences was performing at the Winter Concert as part of the Chamber Choir back in December 2019. We practised and performed a Christmas classic, “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey, and the slightly less well-known but equally charming and beautiful “There's Still My Joy” by the Indigo Girls. The experience allowed me to challenge myself, in terms of my singing abilities, and therefore it has helped me develop new skills in the process. Additionally, it has demonstrated to me the benefits of working collaboratively and taught me the importance of commitment and perseverance. This fun, creative, ongoing, and school-based experience was a huge success and has mainly taught me that with plenty of patience and practice, comes greatness and a wonderful result.
