Year 9 are being introduced to the IGCSE PE course and are looking at its different aspects within their PE lessons. This week, the students were learning about access and barriers to sports participation.
The students experienced some of the barriers that visually impaired performers would face when participating in physical activity. Students had to guide their partner (who was blindfolded) around an obstacle course and complete some physical skills along the way.
The guide was only able to offer their partner verbal guidance. Communication skills were certainly put to the test. Year 9 gained an appreciation of the challenges that visually impaired athletes will experience when performing.
