Year 8 have been exploring the exciting genre of Autobiography in English recently. Not only have students been investigating what the conventions of such personal writing might look like, but they have also experimented with how they can play around with these rules. Students have read autobiographical extracts by Augusten Burroughs, Malala Yousafzai and Lorna Sage.
In particular, Sage's description of her eccentric grandfather inspired the students to write a short autobiographical piece about their grandparents. The results are heart-warming and evocative. Each student seems to have caught the essence of their grandparent and brought them to life through the power of careful language choices. Here you will find humour, nostalgia, mutual understanding - the whole gamut of human emotions. Congratulations Year 8. You've given us something beautiful to read.
