Year 5 have loved dissecting tulips this week as part of our science topic on flowering plants. Here are just a few of the students sharing what they've learnt.
Gergo - I learnt that there is a part of a flower called a 'style'. The 'style' is located in the female part of the flower 'the pistil or carpel', below the stigma.
Tamas & Tomi - We learnt that the tulip has really big anthers.
Antonio - I learnt that the anther (one of the male parts of a flower) has pollen in it.
Bao Er - I learnt that a flower has 14 different parts
Jiho - I learnt that stigma, style and ovary is called pistil (or carpel) and that the pistil is the female part of the flower
Tian - I learnt that a flower has a lot of parts, and they all have different names. Like pistil, it means the female part of the flower.
Violett - I really liked the shape of the stigma from the tulip.
Mona - I learnt that there is yellow powdery pollen inside the stamen.
Hyoin - I learnt the pedicel has many layers.
Antonia - I didn't know that the flower has a male and a female part.
