To introduce Year 3's latest topic, 'Paintings, Pictures and Photographs', Year 3 had a workshop with a watercolour artist and photographer, Steve Miller. Steve taught the students about primary and secondary colours.
Students painted their own colour wheel, experimenting with mixing different amounts of primary colours in order to make different shades of secondary colours in a 12 segmented wheel. Then Steve taught the students how to paint a simple landscape of a boat on lake Balaton. The students learnt how to draw a horizon line, use washes to create the sky and water, use gradients of blue to replicate distance, lift out with a dry tissue to replicate clouds, use the absence of colour to replicate sunlight reflecting off water and how to show reflection by mirroring.
The students and staff learnt a lot. We really enjoyed our tutorial and look forward to learning about other artists and techniques this half term.
