Last Saturday was the U14 Girls’ turn to compete in their end of season DVAC basketball tournament. The girls travelled to MOM Sports Centre for the event, hosted by the Budapest British International School (BBIS).
With a large number of teams competing from both Hungary and Austria, the schools were placed into three groups: an A group and two B groups. Our BISB girls were in the first of the two B groups with BBIS and the International Christian School, Vienna (ICSV). The girls played fantastically well in both these games, showing disciplined and organised defence as well as composure and quick decision making when attacking.
The girls applied set plays they had practised in training and used these effectively in the group games to create many scoring opportunities. In the first game against BBIS, the girls won convincingly 40-16 and in their second game against ICSV, the girls won again 20-12, finishing the group stage in first place.
This qualified the team for the playoff game for 1st and 2nd place in the B group competition. In this match, the girls faced the winning team of the second B group, the International Christian School Budapest. Despite showing great perseverance and a cohesive team effort the girls lost this final game. Overall, our BISB girls finished in second place.
I am immensely proud of the way they played on Saturday and the progress all the girls have made with their basketball this season. I look forward to seeing their continued development into the next season.
