Annamaria and Napsugar from Year 10 participated in the International Competition for Young Debaters on the 23rd of April. They competed against over 50 debate teams from all over the world and had the chance to compete in Oxford and speak in the Oxford Union Chamber, where many politicians have debated before them.
They thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially meeting so many experienced debaters from around the world. Overall, they scored mid-range and finished as the best Hungarian team. They were incredibly pleased with this result as they have only just started debating competitively and faced teams with 4+ years of experience. Examples of the motions were “This house would nationalise the pharmaceutical industry” and “This house would legalise the buying and selling of organs”. They are both looking forward to further pursuing their passion for debating and entering another competition this month.
