This week, Year 7 have been looking at cells and used microscopes for the first time to look at their own cells, as well as onion skin. The students prepared their own slides by removing cells from the inside of their cheek with a cotton bud/Q-tip, they then put this sample on a slide and stained it so that the cells were easier to see.
They also removed the skin from between layers of an onion. By viewing these animal and plant cells, they could see the differences between the two types. We even found a bug in one of the onions, so make sure you wash your vegetables!
