Literacy week trip to the forest

Forest trip

The Early Years children are enjoying the week of activities to surround World Book Day! On Wednesday they walked to the Kiscelli Forest to enjoy a campfire and toasting marshmallows! The children visit the forest on a weekly basis but this was a special experience because the new playground had also opened up, and the children had time to explore the new equipment. Alongside this, they had stories by the fire, climbed hills, used zip lines and explored different swings hanging from the trees. We also saw lots of children engaging in their own role-play ideas such as being fairies and going camping!

The forest really is a magical place for children to use their imaginations, engage in social play, explore with all of their senses and gain physical strength in their whole body. By having a campfire, the children learned about fire safety and how to take care of themselves and their friends by the fire. On Thursday, the children enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character and on Friday, they came to school wearing pajamas for a special ‘Book at Bedtime’ with the visiting children’s storyteller Kate Coleman.
