Year 9 have been looking at rates of reactions and did an exploration of how the temperature of the acid affects the rate of reaction with the acid and magnesium.
The gas given off – hydrogen – was collected using an upturned measuring cylinder filled with water so that the gas displaced the water.
Four temperatures of acid were used and the students worked very safely and efficiently.
