Year 3 Residential - Zhengguo

Year 3 Residential - Zhengguo - Year 3 Residential - Zhengguo

It’s been Primary Residential Week at BSG, which is always a big week for everyone - but especially for Year 3, as it was their very first time staying away with the school. We headed out to Zhengguo for two brilliant days of adventure and challenge.

The children threw themselves into everything: climbing, high ropes, orienteering, fire making, den building, and even crafting bows and arrows for a bit of archery. There were so many moments of teamwork and resilience - children cheering each other on, pushing through when things felt tricky, and celebrating those little wins. This tied in perfectly with this year’s new core value, Excellence: it wasn’t always about reaching the top or being the fastest, but about challenging yourself to be the best you can be. They really did make us proud.

While the residential focused on building different skills, including the willingness and ability to try new experiences, the trip also linked beautifully to what we’ve been doing back in school. With our Stone Age topic kicking off, there were plenty of hunter- gatherer skills on show! And, funnily enough, it even connected beautifully to our first core text The Tunnel by Anthony Browne. Hearing the children talk about the quiet woods and dark forests during their activities was lovely - proof that the story has
stuck with them beyond the classroom.

All in all, it was a fantastic few days for everyone involved. Huge thanks to the WildChina team, our staff, and of course the children for making it such a great first residential for Year 3, and a brilliant milestone in what’s sure to be a busy and exciting term.
