Year 5 have launched into their final writing unit of the year with great excitement as they begin exploring the fascinating world of Greek myths. To introduce the topic, the children were treated to a wonderfully over-the-top theatrical performance of Daedalus and Icarus by their teachers, complete with dramatic acting and plenty of enthusiasm! The performance sparked lots of discussion and curiosity about the characters, themes and lessons found within Greek mythology.

Since then, the children have been immersing themselves in the model text, carefully unpicking ambitious vocabulary and identifying key language features used by the author. They have also created detailed story maps to help them understand and retell the myth confidently. We are looking forward to seeing the children use these ideas and techniques to craft their own mythical tales over the coming weeks.
