James Kelly - James Kelly

After immigrating to Australia, British-born James studied at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Graduating with a Bachelor of Languages and Linguistics and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education, majoring in English, he then taught at secondary schools both on the Gold Coast and in the Outback.

Following a move to China to join his wife, James taught for four years at a British international school in Shenzhen, delivering English and English literature curriculums across all key stages in secondary school. While there, he also developed great enthusiasm for the promotion of intellectual curiosity through extracurricular activities, especially World Scholar’s Cup.

James brings his beliefs about the role of knowledge to BSG. He believes that a strong knowledge base is the foundation of all learning, as it not only serves to give us something to think about, but it is also the platform necessary for critical thinking.

Outside the classroom, James takes an interest in reading about regional Chinese cookery and enjoys trying the variety of cuisines that are found in Guangzhou, as well as attempting a bit of food writing (and food photography) himself.
