EAL Teacher

Mark Holling

Head of Primary EAL
Mark-Holling

Mark Holling has been teaching English in Guangzhou since 2013 and during this time has taught learners aged from 5 to 90 years old. His most recent post was teaching English in a PYP school where he was the international grade leader for Grade 6.  He was awarded an MA Education (Applied Linguistics) with merit by the Open University. He also holds a BSc(Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Exeter and a CertTESOL from Trinity College.

Mark believes second language learning is at its heart a communicative process, in which building learners' confidence in a positive and nurturing classroom, is the key to success. Learners learn best when they are motivated by authentic contexts, personalised activities and have the freedom to make mistakes and reflect on them.

Mark was inspired to join the British School of Guangzhou in 2021 because of its stellar reputation in the city and well-known commitment to developing students and staff. When he isn't working, studying or doing housework, Mark enjoys running, cooking and playing online computer games.
