Se Yeon, Year 13: "A great opportunity to present business ideas at the international student leadership conference"

The opportunity to present her business ideas at the FOBISIA Student Leadership Conference in Bangkok this year was a memorable experience for Se Yeon, Year 13.

Having achieved excellent results of straight A grades in the international AS Level exam in June 2022, the UKMT 2022 Mathematics Challenge Gold Medal, and the ability to proficiently use three languages, English, Korean and Vietnamese, Se Yeon currently holds the position of Saigon House Leader in the Secondary Student Council at BVIS

She plans to pursue a career in business in the future with three subject choices in her second year of the International A Level Programme, which are Mathematics, Business Studies, and Psychology.

"Business Studies is my favorite A Level subject at BVIS. In the process of learning, I have become acquainted with many new terms from fields such as finance, accounting, management, marketing, and market analysis. Ms. Karen Forster and Mr. Mitch Sabido are the two teachers who guide me in this subject. Their lessons often incorporate many interesting case studies in practice and require lively group practice, so I absorb the theory faster and more effectively," Se Yeon said.

Sharing more about the opportunity to present her business idea at the FOBISIA Student Leadership Conference, Se Yeon said the three-day conference program was kicked off with a business startup activity, Race4Good, led by Ms. Linda Cruse, CEO of Frontline First, and her staff. Together with two other members, Victoria and Phong, in Secondary, Se Yeon's team presented a project on developing and growing local fruits to enter the healthy snack market with a focus on marketing as a premium, unique, and exclusive product.

"Being connected with international friends in the process of developing this project was very lucky for me during the trip. Not only sharing my own ideas and interests, but I also had the opportunity to develop innovative business solutions to help the people of Qaanaaq live a more sustainable life. This made me realize that the younger generation can make a huge impact on people around the world through their passion and creativity," Se Yeon expressed.

The conference culminated in a ‘speed coaching’ session where the students’ booked personalised coaching sessions with one of the wonderful, invited leaders. This was an opportunity to ask those key questions and for the students to consider their own leadership journey alongside that of an established leader.

Our International A Level programme at BVIS provides Se Yeon with the opportunity to be exposed to many applied subjects such as Business Studies, as well as practical international experiences from an early age. Se Yeon believes that the combination of three subjects: Mathematics, Business Studies, and Psychology, are mutually beneficial, helping her to focus deeply on her interests and passions while developing effective analytical, evaluative, communication, and teamwork skills. These will be very useful in her future university studies or in her career path. In addition, Se Yeon found at BVIS a welcoming and friendly learning community for over 10 years, which helped her to quickly integrate and become more confident and proactive from the early days of her studies.

"If I were asked what I love most about BVIS, it is undoubtedly the friendly and dynamic learning environment where I have many friends and teachers who care about and support me. Thanks to this, I feel happy and motivated every day I go to school," Se Yeon exclaimed.
