From a passionate film enthusiast to a future filmmaker — Ngan Nhi’s journey began at BVIS!
Since childhood, Ngan Nhi, a Year 13 student at BVIS HCMC, has had a deep love for cinema — captivated by every frame, every story on screen. With admirable determination and clarity of purpose, she has steadily transformed her passion into a career goal: becoming a filmmaker.
This year, she achieved a remarkable milestone in her university application journey — receiving offers from 7 prestigious University of California (UC) campuses in the U.S., along with a total merit-based scholarship worth $444,000 USD.

Ngan Nhi was officially admitted to University of California, Berkeley — ranked #1 U.S. public university (U.S. News & World Report 2024), majoring in Film & Media, with a generous $40,000 scholarship for the first year.
The UC system includes 10 world-renowned public research universities, with 9 offering undergraduate programs. Those institutions such as UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UC San Diego are consistently ranked among the Top 50 universities globally.
Ngan Nhi has been a student at BVIS since Year 5, and her long journey with our school has provided a solid foundation for both her academic and personal development.
During the application process, Ngan Nhi demonstrated a deep understanding of each university, along with a clear academic direction, through her essays and application materials. Her outstanding academic achievements in the A Level programme — particularly the Highest Achievement in Vietnam award in AS Level Media Studies, awarded by Cambridge — played a key role in making her application truly stand out.
Throughout the application process, Ngan Nhi demonstrated an in-depth understanding of each UC campus through her essays and well-researched application portfolio. Her clear academic direction, paired with outstanding achievements in the A Level programme, helped her stand out.
Most notably, she was awarded the Top in Vietnam by Cambridge International for AS Level Media Studies, a key factor in her merit scholarship awards.

"The A Level programme is definitely not easy, especially in the final year, but the challenges it presented really pushed me to grow. My family and the teachers at BVIS — especially Mr. DeLisle and Mr. Webb, our Media Studies teachers — have been my biggest source of encouragement, helping me stay confident in pursuing my dream of filmmaking. I’m also incredibly grateful to Ms. Dung, our University and College Counsellor at BVIS, for her support throughout the university application process," shared Ngan Nhi.
Academic Achievements & Activities:
Let’s congratulate Ngan Nhi on this inspiring milestone — and wish her the very best as she begins an exciting new chapter ahead!
