At BVIS, we believe that the individual differences of people should be celebrated as a strength that enriches our school community. BVIS Inclusion Week was an opportunity for us, as a school community, to come together and explore neurodiversity and differences.
It was a valuable chance to reflect on our own lived experiences, as well as to understand not only the challenges but also the wonderful ways other people move through the world. Students specifically had the opportunity to understand and reflect on the experiences of people with additional needs such as dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. By exploring how these individuals see the world, our students were able to build empathy and understanding, while also breaking down barriers.
A key focus of the week was neuroinclusion – the idea that schools should not only accept differences in how people think, learn, and communicate, but actively design environments and approaches that allow everyone to thrive. At BVIS, neuroinclusion means recognising strengths, removing barriers, and ensuring that all learners feel a strong sense of belonging.
Our Inclusion Team led the week, with the support of our entire staff community. Teachers, TAs, and all colleagues delivered impactful lessons, activities, and experiences across the school. The week explored themes of discovery, reflection, bridging the gap between people, and celebration.
We are so pleased to see the impact this has had on our community, and how these conversations are continuing well beyond the week itself.
