Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

Dear Parents,
Following the brilliant Poetry and Speech performances by primary students yesterday, where the theme of belonging in the speeches shone through, I have been reflecting on what it means to be part of BVIS and this amazing community.

Belonging is more than simply being present; it is about feeling seen, valued, and connected. At BVIS, we see this every day in the way our students support one another, in the pride they take in their learning, and in the respect they show to those around them. It is in the confidence of a child sharing their voice on stage, knowing they are encouraged and celebrated.

This spirit of belonging is also evident in our students currently undertaking exams. It has been wonderful to see how they are working together, sharing knowledge, supporting one another with revision, and positively challenging each other to deepen their understanding.
Alongside this, our teachers continue to be a constant source of support, on hand to allay fears, calm nerves, and offer reassurance, ensuring every student feels prepared and cared for during this important time.

It was also a pleasure to welcome so many parents to our recent canteen food tasting and information sharing session. My thanks go to Black Cat Catering and to all the parents who attended and shared their valuable feedback. We hope you all found the session informative and that you all enjoyed the delicious food. Working together, we grow stronger.

We are thrilled to celebrate the success of our BVIS Speech and Poetry Finals held on Thursday evening! Students entered the competition weeks ago, progressing through the opening rounds in their classes and battling it out in the challenging semi-finals before delivering outstanding performances in our auditorium.
Participants from all phases of Primary, including Year 1 and 2, up to Year 5 and 6, showcased their talents. Students performed in either Vietnamese or in English, captivating a crowd of parents, staff, and fellow students. The panel of judges was genuinely impressed by the confident and articulate performances presented.
A huge well done to all involved, with special thanks to our EAL and VAL departments, led by Miss Melody and Miss Yen Pham, for their hard work and dedication in preparing our students for this remarkable event!

We are excited to celebrate the official opening of our new Early Years Physical and Sensory Development Room, known as The Canopy! Ms Rebecca, our Head of EYFS Department, cut the traditional ribbon and formally inaugurated this wonderful facility, which is already transforming the learning experience for our youngest students.

Beautifully designed to engage and inspire, The Canopy provides a rich environment for physical activity and sensory exploration. Parents had the opportunity to visit and witness the official opening during our Stay Play All Together (SPLAT) events for F1 and F2, making it a memorable occasion for families and staff alike.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact this innovative space will have on our Early Years program!

In addition to encouraging students to read outside of class time, Vietnamese language teachers also enhanced in-class reading activities through Reading Inclusion sessions. After reading, teachers organized activities for students to participate in to reinforce understanding, develop thinking skills, and increase interest in reading.

Last weekend Susie (Y9) and NK (Y10) competed in the Asia Pre-WSDC competition. This competition brought together 72 teams from across Asia, but through their hard work and determination the two students from BVIS were victorious.
Congratulations to both, on their impressive victory.
NK also recently won another individual achievement in ILA debate competition,Please read more here
Well done to both Susie and NK, such amazing achievements!

Students across the school are in the middle of their end-of-year assessments in what is an extremely busy time for them. In this week’s assembly, students were taught a method called “Box breathing” to help them manage their stress levels during this time. It is a simple method that students can use at home, in lessons, or even in the middle of their exams, to help them focus on whatever task they need to complete. We are hopeful that this will be helpful for our students! Attached is the image of box breathing, in both Vietnamese and English.
