Moon JiU (Class of 2026): receives offers from top Russell Group universities in the United Kingdom - Moon JiU Class of 2026 receives offers from top Russell Group universities in the United Kingdom

Congratulations to JiU, a Year 13 student (Class of 2026) at BVIS HCMC, on receiving offers from three leading UK universities, all members of the Russell Group, known for their academic excellence and research strength.

His offers include:

Behind these achievements is not only strong academic performance but also a journey of exploration, where JiU was able to refine his interests and confidently define his future direction.

Exploring interests and finding direction

An important milestone of JiU’s journey was his transition from an IB school to BVIS HCMC, where he began studying A Levels

This shift not only gave him the opportunity to focus more deeply on a smaller number of subjects but also allowed him to better understand how he learns most effectively. Reflecting on this experience, JiU shared that:

“I really enjoyed taking A Levels because they allowed me to focus on a smaller number of subjects while studying them in greater depth. I also felt that the A Level system suited my learning style better.”

With this stronger alignment between his learning style and academic pathway, JiU was able to explore subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science in greater depth during his A Level.

JiU shared that “At first, I was interested in several areas of engineering but discussions with my physics teacher, university counsellor and career counsellor helped me understand which suited me best. Tools like Unifrog also allowed me to explore universities and set clear goals, helping me narrow my focus to one specific major.”

Over time, this guidance led to a clearer interest in engineering and the confidence to pursue Electrical and Electronic Engineering at university.

Building understanding through study

JiU and his friends won the Saigon senior mathematics competition

With a clear sense of direction, JiU showed outstanding academic progress:

  • Achieved 4 A at AS Level in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science
  • Attained the highest mark in AS Level Computer Science at BVIS HCMC
  • Scored 5/5 in AP Calculus BC

These experiences reflect his ability to engage with challenging material and apply what he has learned in a practical way.

Learning beyond the classroom

Outside of lessons, JiU continued to explore his interests through a range of activities and competitions:

  • Earned two Bronze medals as a BVIS representative at the World Mathematics Championship Finals at Imperial College London
  • Achieved a Gold Certificate in the UKMT Senior Mathematics Challenge
  • Co-founded and served as Co-President of the Python Programming Club
  • Participated in the Chemistry Olympiad Club
  • Completed an independent Physics research project on simple harmonic motion and damping using smartphone sensor data

These experiences gave him more opportunities to test his interests and develop his skills in different contexts.

Reflecting on the journey

JiU and his Year 13 friends

Looking back on his journey, JiU shared:

“BVIS provided me with a positive learning environment that encouraged me to become more independent and motivated in my studies. Through academic and extra-curricular opportunities, I improved my problem-solving skills and confidence both inside and outside the classroom. Participating in competitions, clubs, and leadership opportunities at BVIS helped me develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills while preparing for university studies.”

JiU’s journey shows how academic suitability and clear guidance can support the students to thrive and gain success in their study.
