International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)
Taken when students are 16 years of age, IGCSEs are designed to provide your child with broad and balanced programmes of study in a number of subject areas that develop critical thinking, analytical skills and the ability to communicate ideas effectively. Our IGCSE results are as good as or better than many top private schools in the UK, with BSG students often outperforming those from institutions such as Eton and Harrow.
2020 IGCSE RESULTS
The two main criteria that are used to judge examination performance for 16 year olds in the UK are; achieving 5 grades at 'C' or above, and the number of the highest grades achieved. We are very proud that 97% of all examinations sat by the British School of Guangzhou students received grade 'C' or above.
This is a tremendous achievement, but our top students really shone with 58% of exams taken awarded either grade 'A*' or 'A '- the highest possible grades. This is compared to the UK's average of 20%, showing just how far ahead our students are as they move to university entry.
Having joined BSG in 2011, Helen has been a consistent success story in all core subjects — notably gaining a Gold Award in the University of Oxford's International Physics Olympiad in 2019.
Joining in 2006, Mabel’s whole education has been with BSG. She has shown a superb contribution to all subjects throughout her education and won notable awards, including the Outstanding Student Award in 2016, and a Gold certificate in the University of Oxford’s International Physics Olympiad in 2019.
Having also attended MIT for STEAMFest 2017, and the Model United Nations, Mabel has been a dedicated ambassador for the school — truly representing BSG’s core values of respect, responsibility, commitment and integrity.
Advanced Level (A-Level)
The A-Level programme is a globally accepted qualification for students aged 18, as they look at gaining entry into universities and colleges. All USA, UK, Australian, Canadian, European and Asian universities accept A-Level qualifications. This includes the added benefit of possible advanced placement, as A-Level study offers a higher degree of specialisation than the IB programme.
2020 A-LEVEL RESULTS
With a 99% pass rate, our A-Level results are testament to our academic success and commitment to building a lifelong love of learning.
54% of exams taken by our students achieved an 'A' or 'A*' grade (UK average 25%). 76% achieved A*- B grades (UK average 52%).
Shing achieved A* grades in computer science, mathematics, further mathematics and physics.
One of BSG's long-term success stories, Shing joined the school in 2007, and proved to be a well-respected influence amongst his peers, as much as an asset to BSG.
We wish Shing all the best as he studies mathematics at the University of Cambridge.
