University Degree: MA Primary Education
I began my teaching career in Scotland over 20 years ago. Since then, I have held many positions within education including curriculum co-ordinator roles for various primary subjects; a secondment with Education Scotland – the body tasked with improving learning and teaching across Scotland; and, latterly, developing my leadership and management skills as a Principal Teacher in West Lothian. My main achievements over the years have included gaining a Master of Education degree from Stirling University and leading new initiatives into the learning and teaching of mathematics within the primary school.
Two years ago, I made the decision to make the move into international education and took up my first post with Nord Anglia Education at Compass International School Doha. I enjoyed the challenge of living and working somewhere completely different to Scotland. While working there, I became aware of the excellent reputation of The British School of Guangzhou in China and felt that it would be a great place to take the next step in working internationally. I am delighted to now become part of the BSG family and look forward to working with my new colleagues and developing myself professionally.
In my free time, I enjoy going for long walks. It has been known for me to stroll up a hill or two in Scotland, along with my husband and daughter, but nothing too strenuous! I also enjoy the performing arts and attending concerts. This has been a benefit when helping out with school productions. I also like to read. Anything from journals to novels and I do like the odd crime thriller.
