United Nations Valle Alto, UNVA, is a simulation which started as a students’ dream in 2010 and has taken place every year since then at the San Roberto International School Campus Valle Alto. This academic program is made by students for students, where the delegates are be able to practice and develop their skills in leadership, public speaking, team building, and debating which will help them lead a better future. Our main goals are to promote negotiation, problem solving, and quick thinking skills; as well as to develop in all our participants a sense of empathy and community regarding world conflicts and issues lived today so they can act toward solving them.
Every year, the UNVA Secretariat distinguishes itself by introducing new debate committees. In 2010 and 2011, UNVA only offered Regular UN committees, but in 2012 and 2013 the International Criminal Court (ICC) was introduced. Later in 2014, we added the Mexican Presidential Cabinet and the United States Presidential Cabinet. Then in 2015, due to its great yearly success, ICC took place both in English and Spanish. In 2016, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization took place and became one of our outstanding committees in the simulation. This year, the UNVA 2017 Secretariat decided to introduce the Joint War Committee and the House of Representative Committee.
We know that this academic program develops social awareness in the participants. Therefore, in order to help the development of critical thinking, crisis situations related to everyday world situations are introduced to all of our committees. Also, in order to support the younger students who are interested in this program, we have established a training committee, where the delegates develop debating skills that prepare them for future simulations.
For everything the UNVA offers to our community, not only at the San Roberto International School but also to the local community, we are proud to have been accredited by the International Module United Nations Association (IMUNA). This organization has provided young learners with skills to be responsible global citizens and effective agents of change for the last four decades. We know about the great responsibility this represents. Therefore, we are committed to making improvements and innovations in global issues education and integrate social and emotional intelligence while developing empathy, critical thinking and cultural understanding throughout event.
