Secondary Update – From Mr Simon Graves 06/11/2015

06 November 2015

The school week started early for us this week, with the staff and many students and parents coming in on Sunday to meet the visiting team from CIS. Many thanks to all of those people for giving up their weekend. And many thanks to everyone in the school community for all their hard work preparing for the visit and also for showing all week what a special place BVIS is in which to work and learn. We won’t receive official feedback for some time, but I know that all of the team have been impressed by what they’ve seen.

And yet even with the team in, there has been more going on than ever in secondary! On Tuesday, the school welcomed colleagues from BIS to join us in a Teach Meet. Over 100 teachers and TAs met together to share good practice and learn new ideas from one another. It was a great learning experience for all involved.

Sporting success has also been in evidence this week, with our volleyball teams performing really well against AIS and our U14 girls’ basketball team finishing a magnificent third in the City Championships! Well done to all involved!

Secondary Update 06112015 1

On Tuesday, some of our most talented students got together in the library to perform a range of music for the first Live Lunch of the year. British and Vietnamese songs were sung – and played – to a much impressed audience of students, staff and CIS members.

On Wednesday, key stage 3 students battled it out for house points and the right to be named Poetry Slam Champion 2015. The standard was absolutely amazing, and it was a tight call for the judges, but well done to overall winner Ky Dan and click here to enjoy his winning poem. You can also watch and listen to all the poems being performed here:

Meanwhile, year 13 students were dressed to the nines for their mock university interviews. We wish all of them the best of luck at this important time of year as they begin to apply for the next stage in their education.

So after an extremely hectic and exciting week, we can look back with pride at what we’ve achieved so far…and we’ll be as busy as ever next week as we continue on our journey.

Have a lovely weekend.
