KS2 Sports Mornings

On Tuesday morning we held the first of our Key Stage 2 Sports Mornings. Year 3 and 4 children took part in a variety of fun activities throughout the morning to earn points for their House teams and the final results were as follows:

1st Dalat with 532 points

2nd Hue with 521 points

3rd Saigon with 498 points

4th Hanoi with 486 points

As you can see, it was a very close competition. Congratulations to Dalat house!

On Thursday morning, similar activities were enjoyed by the Year 5 and 6 children with slightly more challenge for these older students: balance beam; rolling ball; obstacle course; leap frog; high jump; javelin; sprint races.

The morning finished with a tug of war which Saigon won and sprint races for the Dads and Mums. Once again, the parents won the teachers v parents tug of war!

Sporting competition was as close as it had been on Tuesday but the overall winners were Hue. Congratulations to them!

1st Hue with 366 points

2nd Saigon and Dalat with 351 points each

3rd  Hanoi with 339 points

Thank you to all the parents who attended our four Sports Mornings this year to support their children, also for joining in the adult races and tug of war competitions with such great enthusiasm.

I would like to thank Mr Tam, one of our PE teaching assistants, for organising all the KS1 and KS2 events so well and the rest of the PE department for leading and overseeing the competitions.

Year 2’s production of “The Snowman at Sunset”

Our Christmas festivities began this week with the wonderful production of “The Snowman at Sunset” performed in the Main Hall on Friday morning.

I think the staging and scenery for this particular production is probably the most spectacular we have seen for Primary productions and the children looked fabulous in their wintery costumes. All Year 2 children were involved in singing and acting out a lovely story about the challenge of building a snowman. And… it snowed on stage! The magic of Christmas came to BVIS!

Ms Madeleine and her Year 2 team of class teachers, EAL staff and teaching assistants, ably assisted by Mr Fergus with the music, put in a huge amount of work behind the scenes to prepare the children for this performance.

Congratulations to the Year 2 children and staff for a fabulous start to Christmas!

Coming up at the end of term in the Primary School …

We have a number of events during the last week and a half of term in the Primary School:

o    Your child’s class teachers will be sending information about the children’s Christmas parties on Thursday 17th December. This is a non-uniform day for the children. There will games and entertainment plus party food and … we hope that Santa will come to visit too!

o   The BVIS pantomime will be performed on Friday 18th December in the Main Hall at 08:30

What is a “pantomime”? Traditionally performed during the Christmas season, with family audiences, it is now a very popular form of theatre in the UK, incorporating song, dance, buffoonery, slapstick, in-jokes and audience participation Thus, it is excellent entertainment for adults, teenagers and children alike.

This is the very first pantomime to be performed at BVIS and has been specially written by our very own Ms Julie Jackson! “Jack and the Beanstalk” will feature music and drama provided by the BVIS teachers and you are very welcome to join us for what promises to be great entertainment!
