FOBISIA Maths Competition 2016

04 March 2016

Thursday 25th February 2016 (Day 1)

We arrived at the Tan Son Nhat airport at 8am. Then we checked in and waited to board the plane which departed at 11am. The flight lasted for 1 hour and 45 minutes and when we reached the Kuala Lumpur airport, we were transported to the Saujana resort where the competition will be held. We had some free time before dinner. At dinner, the hosting school, ELC Kuala Lumpur, had an opening speech and welcomed us to Malaysia and then after dinner, we had some ice-breaker activities to get our brains working before the actual competition. At round 9pm, we returned to our room and rested for the next challenging day.

Friday 26th February 2016 (Day 2)

Day 2 was the first day of the competition. We had a fantastic breakfast before heading into the rounds. There was an Individual round, a Logic Puzzles round, a Puzzle Strategy round, the Mingle round and finally, the Maths Trail. They were jam-packed with lots of fun challenges. The Maths Trail was the best, even though it was really tiring running around the hotel without any sense of where we were going. At night, after our dinner, we had a KL tour. We visited the KL Tower, the Petronas Twin Tower and the Independence Square. I slept most of the time! When we arrived back in the hotel, we were all exhausted so we went to bed and fell asleep in no time!

Saturday 27th February 2016 (Day 3)

We started the 3rd day with another marvelous breakfast. Next, we competed in the final rounds: Data Handling, Cross Number, Pass It Across and Construction. I liked the Construction round the most because we got to build our own bridge with straws! After the rounds, we had 2 hours of free time before the closing ceremony. In the ceremony, the prizes were announced. My group, BVIS A, got awarded the FIRST place of the Pass It Across round! Also, Tram from year 7 got another medal for the Mingle round. After the goodbye dinner, we got to see a magic show. It was incredible how the magician did the tricks! Unfortunately, we couldn’t attend the disco afterwards because we had to depart early the next day. We came back to our room and slept ready for an early start on day 4.

Sunday 28th February 2016 (Day 4)

We started off very early on the last day. We had our packed breakfast prepared by the hotel. Then we set off for the airport. Due to a traffic jam, we were almost late for the flight. Luckily, we just made it in time. We boarded the plane and the 1 hour 45 minutes trip to Vietnam started. When we reached our dear country, we said goodbye to our friends and ended a spectacular trip. A very big thank you to ELC Kuala Lumpur for hosting a brilliant competition, thank you to Mr Blair and Ms Riley for taking care of us during the trip and finally, thank you to my friends for keeping me company!
