Mr. Paul Holyome Weekly Update - 16/06/2017

16 June 2017

  • Paul

Dear Parents

We are almost at the end of another fantastic academic year at BVIS. The staff and students have been working exceptionally hard during this long term and I know they are all looking forward to a very well earned break very soon. This last two weeks is always very special as we celebrate the many achievements of our students and staff across the school year.

It was huge pleasure to attend the Sports Awards Evening last night. Each year our sporting activities and events increase and the opportunities afforded to our students gets better and better as time goes on. Last night we witnessed the vast array of competitions, events and successes in the field of sport. More students are now taking part in the FOBISIA games and there is an ever increasing breadth of local and regional competitions for our students to take part in. It was amazing to see so many teams and individuals being recognised and rewarded for their efforts and successes. It was also an evening to pay tribute to the many staff in our school who support, coach and work with the children to enable them these great opportunities. I would like to congratulate all the students and thank all the staff for making this the best ever year of sport at BVIS.

On Wednesday an enthusiastic group of primary students and staff attended Giant Supermarket in the Crescent Mall. Our students are very keen to play their part in educating and making the world a more eco-friendly place. On Wednesday the students launched a very successful campaign at Giant to encourage people to use reusable shopping bags and not plastic bags as is the norm. The students were fantastic and were able to talk and discuss with customers the need to move away from throw away plastic bags and more towards sustainable long term reusable bags. The students dressed as ‘eco warriors’ and handed out 100s of reusable bags that had been designed by the students for this purpose. I know you will share with me the need to celebrate and support such important projects in our community and we were extremely proud of all the students who took part in this project. This we believe will be just the start of their work. Well done to all the staff and students, fantastic community work.

I am really looking forward to the last week of term when we continue to celebrate our many achievements. On Tuesday we host the Year 6 leaver ball, on Wednesday prize giving for secondary students and we finish with an end of year celebration assembly on Friday. It promises to be a very busy, but very special week. Please also be reminded that the school will finish at 11.30am on Friday 23rd June.

I wish you all a very relaxing weekend.
