Without doubt, this is the most difficult secondary update I’ve ever had to write. I feel incredibly emotional but I’ll try and keep it together for a few minutes more!

It’s been a lovely last week of the school year, however. On Monday, the whole of Year 7 were magnificent in their performance of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. You can see photos of this fantastic production put together by the English department here.

On Wednesday, the Prize Giving Assembly was a wonderful celebration of the achievements of everyone in secondary. We awarded over 170 students with over 250 prizes and it demonstrated once again the depth and breadth of talent on show here at BVIS. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you, whether you won an award or not, but I have made particular mention of our Special Award Winners below.

I want to take an opportunity now to thank all of my colleagues for their incredible work this year as once again the school has risen to new levels of excellence. The Yearbook will remind you of some of the incredible achievements and experiences our students have had in the last 12 months.

In particular, I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Williams, Ms Claydon, Ms May and Ms Smith for their hard work and commitment to the school. They are all moving on to pastures new, and each leaves an incredible legacy in the school: productions, performances, sporting excellence and murals. I wish each one of them every success in their next adventure.

And I know you will also join me in wishing Ms Tuoc well for her new adventure, in married life, in a new country and a new job as she starts life in Abu Dhabi. For many of you, Tuoc will have been your first point of contact when you phoned the school, or will have translated for you in meetings, supported you with any issues, and always does so with a smile on her face, with calmness, and with utter professionalism.

And finally I would like to thank you, as parents and families, and each and every student at BVIS. I have written before of the warmth shown by Vietnamese people, from every walk of life; I can sadly say that such openness and welcoming attitudes are not demonstrated everywhere in the world towards those from other cultures. I leave Vietnam with a head full of wonderful memories and a heart full of love for this amazing country and its fabulous people. I will return to visit, and I will be following the hub and Facebook posts every week to keep up to date with the latest exploits of all the students as BVIS continues to go from strength to strength.

Have a wonderful summer. Have wonderful lives. Keep on being the wonderful people you are.
