School Uniforms

Uniform

The school uniform is a means of showing our identity and pride in our school to the wider community as well as being practical school wear. All children from F1 through to Year 13 are expected to wear their school uniform every day that they attend school.

A detailed overview of the full uniform for EYFS (Foundation 1, 2 and 3), Primary (Years 1 to 6), Secondary (Years 7 to 11) and 6th Form (Years 12 and 13) can be found in this link.

EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) AND PRIMARY UNIFORMS

In conjunction with the standard EYFS and Primary school uniform, below are some added details to take into consideration. In order to support effective school operation, please be reminded to clearly label all items that come into school, so they can easily be returned if misplaced.

  • Shoes:  Sensible black leather shoes (Foundation Stage 1 & 2 exempt) or closed toe sandals, preferable without laces for the younger children.

F1 & F2 should wear sensible shoes or closed toe sandals to aid the growth and development of small feet.

  • Socks:  White, black or dark blue ankle socks

  • Hair:  Long hair should be tied back with a soft hair band. No bandana style headbands or novelty hair accessories.

  • Hats:  Children should always wear school hats when they are outside to protect them from the sun.  BVIS has a 'no hat - no play' policy.

  • PE Kit/Swimming:  From Foundation Stage 3 upwards, children must change into their PE or Swimming kit for any physical activity.  They require sports shoes for outdoor PE activities. Children will change back into their school uniform after PE or Swimming.

SECONDARY AND 6TH FORM UNIFORMS

In conjunction with the standard Secondary and 6th Form school uniform, below are some added details to take into consideration. In order to support effective school operation, please be reminded to clearly label all items that come into school, so they can easily be returned if misplaced.

  • Shoes: clean and polished black leather. These should be business dress style shoe and not black trainers (no suede, trainers/sports shoes or sandals and no logos or decorations)

  • Socks: plain white, black, grey or no socks

  • PE and Drama:  Only school PE kit should be worn in PE lessons. Students may change into suitable shorts and t-shirts for Drama lessons, if required

  • Sweater/Fleece: Only school sweaters/fleeces may be worn

  • Hair:  Should be neat, clean and of a natural colour.  No extreme haircuts are permitted and students will be challenged about this if required

  • Make-up and/or nail varnish is not allowed.

  • Jewellery:  Small items will be allowed within reason.  As a rule of thumb: one pair of plain earrings or studs, worn in the lobe of the ear; one plain ring; one plain necklace; bracelet-friendship bands within reason (2 maximum); no visible tattoos, body art or body piercings.
