Tuesday the 4th and Wednesday the 5th of December were the dates for ISM’s annual production at The Rublevo Theatre. This year, it was the heartwarming, Christmas-relevant, Broadway record breaker ‘Annie’. Deemed to be one of the biggest events on the school calendar, it was important that the cast and crew delivered in an ambitious fashion.

The production of ‘Annie’ began way back in September, when over one hundred Upper Campus hopefuls auditioned for their desired roles. When the cast were finally whittled down to the chosen forty, the hard work finally began.

Lunch times, ASAs, extended rehearsals and weekends were mandatory for everyone involved in the production as they worked tirelessly to ensure the production of ‘Annie’ was a huge success. The whole rehearsal process lasted just under four months.

With the cast and crew concentrating solely on the show, the cohesion of the group came to fruition with all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle coming together: Songs were accompanying the choreography and the acting was finally coming to life.

Monday the 3rd of December was dress rehearsal day with every aspect of the production now in working order. The orchestra were in full swing, along with all the technical aspects of light and sound. These proved to be the cherries on the top of a very appetising play. With the show dates looming on the horizon, everyone was beginning to feel excited about the prospect of ‘tomorrow’.

The Rublevo Theatre was packed out on both evenings with an array of parents, teachers and students, all geared up to be entertained. The two-and-a-half-hour performance of ‘Annie’ did more than entertain. The production surpassed any expectation. Not only did the show engage the audience, it inspired, surprised, impressed and evoked joy from everyone present. Leading the plaudits was a very proud Principal, Mr Keach, who had nothing but praise for the hard work and dedication of both students and staff, labelling it “The best Secondary production in ISM history.”

Congratulations to all students involved in the production from backstage to principles. A big thank you to Mr. Burke, Miss Bolshakova and Mr. Langford for producing a fine piece of theatre.

The question on everyone’s mind now is; what will the school production be next year?!
