Year 4 Production: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Year Four took to the stage in frosty November and warmed the hearts and minds of their audience with blockbuster performances of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The children sang and acted their hearts out throughout the shows. 20191120 ISM Kry Y4 Prodactionn 209DSCF5932 hero

Everything is calm and peaceful in Moscow. Dorothy is dreaming of travelling further than she ever has before, when suddenly a cyclone approaches. Clinging onto her dog, Toto, Dorothy is lifted right up off the ground. They see cars and cows and even an iPhone flying through the air as they hold on tight to their shaking home. Finally they land in the peculiar world of Munchkin Land and are greeted by a hoard of giggling munchkins and the Good Witch of the North, Glinda.

Dorothy soon understands that her home has accidentally killed the Wicked Witch of the East, (which the rest of Munchkin land are thankful for). As a result, she is now entitled to wear the witch’s powerful ruby slippers. As the story progresses, we meet the hilarious Scarecrow, the tantalizing Tin Man and the not very ferocious Lion. As they try to find The Wizard of Oz, they come across a number of problems, which they work as a team to overcome.

In the end, Glinda the Good Witch tells Dorothy that all she needs is to tap her heels three times and say ‘There’s no place like home’. Dorothy returns to her delighted Auntie Em in Moscow, which left the show on a very warm, satisfying note.

The dazzling Dorothies lit up the show with their excellent acting, wonderful singing and infectious kindness. The scarecrows made us laugh with their quest for a brain. The lions made us smile with their warm hearts and the tin men made us cry with their search for feeling and a heart. The narrators seamlessly guided the audience through the adventure with clear descriptions and lots of witty jokes.

The cast were fantastic throughout the shows. We also had adorable Totos, a bunch of Cheeky trees, stubborn gatekeepers, magnificent munchkins, Glinda the Good Witch and some misunderstood ‘evil’ sidekicks. One character who wasn’t misunderstood was the very evil Wicked Witch of the West. She terrified the audience with her piercing cackle and amazing acting.

A huge thank you to everyone who made it possible; including the Year Four  team and the wonderful parents who helped us with the production.
