With the start of Term One After-School Activities, Years Five and Six have been given the opportunity to join the Monday Outdoor Adventure club.
The Outdoor Adventure club is an excellent opportunity for all students in Years Five and Six to take part in a variety of activities not usually available to them. The club runs throughout the year with activities designed to take full advantage of the weather.
So far this term we have built shelters and put-up tents. We have done climbing and map reading in some challenging weather. However, by wearing the right clothing, students have tackled the elements to enjoy themselves no matter what. As we move into winter, we will take part in activities such as igloo building and winter survival and, in the summer, we will look at camp cookery, pioneering and raft building.
The goal of the club is to not only expose students to these exciting activities but to also build their confidence and teach them the skills to take part in a self-sufficient expedition in Term Three.
Throughout the year, students will build a range of skills, not only physically but also socially, that they will need to take on the challenge of the expedition. Reading maps, becoming leaders, making rafts and carrying their equipment. The expedition will finish with a night of camping in our EYFS forest.
Sign-up for the club has been successful, however students are always welcome to join during the year.
