Young researchers wish to do a further investigation

Thinking, researching, sharing and debating is helping students to dig deep and wide as they make relevant and fascinating connections.

In language and literacy work, the children are developing critical thinking skills as they read and write. They excitedly shop for books each week as they are learning to make good choices with their ‘just right’ texts that offer the correct level of challenge and comprehension to them. Each week, the children are being encouraged to think deeply about why they like a book from the selection they made. They are learning to formulate Opinion Pieces that help them to clarify their thinking as they practice their writing. Introduced by Ms. Dom, the owls have discovered the magic of chapter books through the Tashi series. Each day they listen intently to the read- aloud that allows them to follow the story with few pictures, a big shift to adult books for many!

In math, the children have been excited to set up the shape museum as they bring familiar objects from their home. They share aspects of these shapes in terms of its points, faces or edges. This hands on exercise helps them to personalize their learning giving them a chance to collaborate and share.

Motivated to enquire into the animal kingdom, our young explorers are looking closely at the common characteristics that group certain animals together. They constantly make these connections as they read a book or play with the animals about the classroom. These young researchers wish to further investigate: What category do scorpions fall under? Are dinosaurs reptiles? Is there a connection between chickens and dinosaurs?
