The Power of Parental Showcases

At Nord Anglia International School, Hong Kong, we believe that parental showcases are a great way to celebrate learning. These events are far more than performances or exhibitions, they are celebrations of student voice, creativity, and growth. They offer families a unique window into their child’s educational journey.

Our recent Year 2 Showcase MIT inspired ‘Brilliant Buildings, Amazing Architects’ highlighted just how impactful these moments can be. At the end of the event, Mr. Gill invited parents to share their feedback, and they were overwhelmingly impressed by three key aspects:

  1. Children’s Confidence and Public Speaking: Students spoke clearly and passionately, often without notes, demonstrating deep understanding and pride in their work.
  2. Creative and Detailed Artwork & Models: From imaginative building designs to delicate, large-scale models, the creativity and craftsmanship on display were exceptional.
  3. Quality of Writing and Teamwork: Parents praised the heartfelt writing and the collaborative spirit evident in every project.

Beyond the showcase itself, parents learned more about our approach to education. We shared how we integrate hands-on, real-world learning, such as designing buildings to withstand typhoons, while nurturing collaboration, creativity, and confidence. Many appreciated seeing the full learning process, from planning to execution, and how it builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

We also value parent feedback. Suggestions such as adjusting the timing for working families are being considered to make future showcases even more inclusive.

Parental showcases are a celebration of learning, community, and connection. We thank all families for their support and look forward to many more inspiring moments together.

Finally, I would like to thank the Year 2 Team, all Teachers and TLAs, for leading an excellent unit of work which was celebrated through their showcase.
