Year 4 Chocolate Factory Visit – Learning Beyond the Classroom
Dear Parents,
As part of our exciting Year 4 topic “From Bean to Bar – Where does my food come from?”, our students recently visited a local chocolate factory, Conspiracy Chocolate, to deepen their understanding of food production and the journey of chocolate from its origins to the final product.
This visit was a valuable way to extend the learning happening in school. Through hands-on experiences and guided tours, children were able to see the real-world application of concepts they have explored in class. This includes the harvesting of cocoa beans to the intricate processes of roasting, grinding, and tempering that transform raw ingredients into delicious chocolate bars.

The factory staff provided engaging demonstrations and answered thoughtful questions from our curious learners. Students were particularly fascinated by the ethical and environmental considerations involved in sourcing cocoa, which ties in with our discussions around sustainability and global food systems.
Experiential learning helps bring classroom topics to life. We have more of these experiences planned for the children from across school in the coming terms. It encourages inquiry, sparks enthusiasm, and supports children in making meaningful connections between what they learn in school and the world around them. We were proud to see our Year 4s showing respect, curiosity, and teamwork throughout the visit.
I encourage you to ask your child about their favourite part of any trip that they attend and what surprised them most. You might be amazed at what they have discovered!
Thank you for your continued support in making these enriching experiences possible.
