Moderation and Pupil Progress Meetings
Dear Parents,
At NAIS Hong Kong, we are committed to ensuring every child receives the highest quality education tailored to their individual needs. As part of that, we hold regular parent teacher meetings, with an upcoming parents meeting next week.
This year, you may have noticed that we brought forward the date of parent meetings to November with reports sent in Term 2. We initiated this change so that we could share progress earlier with parents and so that we can affect a change to children’s learning outcomes before the report. At our parent meetings next week, teachers will share how we can collectively, home and school, support and guide children in the coming months.
To ensure we have accuracy and rigour in our reporting cycles to parents and in our reports, we engage in professional pupil progress meetings and moderation of assessment data.
Why do these processes matter?
Moderation is the process where teachers collaboratively review and compare student work against agreed international standards and benchmarks. This ensures consistency and accuracy in reported assessment across classes and year groups. By moderating, we work hard to ensure that your child’s achievements are measured accurately and in line with international benchmarks. It also provides teachers with opportunities to share best practices, refine teaching strategies, engage in high quality professional dialogue and maintain high expectations for all learners.
Pupil progress meetings are scheduled discussions where teachers analyse each child’s academic and personal development. These meetings allow staff to identify strengths, address learning gaps, and plan targeted support or interventions to support our personalised approach to learning. They also help us track progress over time, ensuring that every child is challenged appropriately and receives the help they need to thrive.
How does this impact your child?
By systematically engaging with these processes, we create a learning environment that is equitable, transparent, and focused on the growth of each child. We prioritise professional dialogue among colleagues and take time to ensure we present robust data to all parents. Moderation and progress meetings are vital steps in delivering personalised learning, planning for children’ next steps in learning and maintaining the high standards we all expect from our school.
We look forward to welcoming parents to our meetings on Thursday, online or in-person, to talk about helping every child to reach their full potential.
Looking Ahead
Best regards,
