Year 5 Trashion Show 2025 - A Celebration of Creativity and Sustainability
Dear Parents,
Last week, our Year 5 students proudly presented their Trashion Show, an inspiring event where creativity met sustainability. Over the past few weeks, the children worked with enthusiasm and imagination to design and construct unique outfits using recycled and repurposed materials. Their dedication and teamwork were evident in every piece displayed on the runway.
This project was more than a trashion show, it was a cross-curricular learning experience that combined English, art, design, environmental science, and problem-solving. The children explored the importance of reducing waste, learned innovative ways to reuse everyday items, and developed critical thinking skills that will serve them well in the future.
The event highlighted values that matter deeply: creativity, environmental responsibility, and collaboration. These qualities are essential for preparing our children to thrive in a world that increasingly demands sustainable solutions.
Thank you to all parents who attended and supported our young designers. Your presence made the celebration even more meaningful. Together, we are nurturing a generation that understands the power of innovation and cares for our planet.
The event stands out as marker for student engagement led by a committed and dedicated team of Teachers and TLAs in Year 5.
Meet our Student Leaders
Over the coming weeks, we will showcase our excellent student leadership teams here. They may write about their upcoming priorities, offer guidance for parents and children and share their passion for their subjects!
This week is the turn of our Mathematics Student Leaders. Hot off the back of the first ever Student Leadership Mathematics Newsletter (found in the library), they introduce themselves below and share tips for parents.
Advik 6F: the thing I enjoy most about maths is working out questions and knowing why the method works. I have one tip to teaching mathematics at home, explain what to do and how the method works. If you just give them the method, they will not understand the maths that is happening.
Charlotte 6F: I wanted to become a Mathematics Leader because I really like doing Mathematics. I like Mathematics because when I solve a hard question it is very satisfying and if I don’t, I can think of methods to help me solve it. I think a tip to help children to understand mathematics is to explain how the method works and to help them practice the method once they understand it.
Glafira 6D: I want to be a lawyer but for now I wanted to be a Mathematician. I really like Mathematics because I’ve always loved solving equations and I also love sudoku. A tip for doing Mathematics at home is do it when you have some free time and then show it to a parent ask them to mark it and see where you went wrong.
